Which Hudson Valley County Should You Get Married In?
The valley is not one place. Where you book decides the drive, the look, and what your guests do on Sunday morning.

People say "the Hudson Valley" as though it were a town. It is a hundred and fifty miles of river with very different places along it, and the county you choose changes your wedding more than the venue you choose inside it.
The short version
Westchester has the most wedding venues of any county here, and it is the easiest for guests coming from the city — often under an hour. The trade is that it feels like the suburbs it is. Clubs and ballrooms, beautifully kept, not much wilderness.
Ulster is the second largest and, for a lot of couples, the sweet spot: close enough to the city to be reachable, far enough to feel like somewhere. The Catskills are right there.
Orange is similar in scale and a little cheaper, with farms and distilleries and a lot of open land.
Dutchess is the one people picture — Rhinebeck, Hudson across the river, the postcard towns — and it has fewer venues than its reputation suggests.
Greene and Columbia are where the valley turns into the mountains. Fewer venues, more drama, longer drives.
Albany and Rensselaer at the north end have a real supply of venues and much less wedding traffic, which can mean a Saturday in June is actually available.
What to decide first
Not the look. The drive.
Work out where most of your guests are coming from, then add the drive to a venue and ask whether you would do it twice in a weekend — because that is what a welcome party asks of them. If the answer is no, you have either chosen the wrong county or you need everyone staying nearby, and that is a different budget.
Where the beds are
This is the question that separates counties more than scenery does. A venue two hours from the city with forty rooms on site is easier on your guests than one an hour out with nothing within twenty minutes.
Before you fall for a county, look at what is within fifteen minutes of the venue: a hotel block, an inn, anything. If the honest answer is nothing, your guests are driving home late on unlit roads, and some of them will not come.
The one nobody considers
Sullivan, Putnam and Rockland have the fewest venues between them. That is exactly why they are worth a look if your dates are tight — less competition for a Saturday, and some genuinely good rooms that never make a round-up because the county is not fashionable.
Fewer options is not the same as worse options. It just means you will have to go and look rather than scroll.
